Puppy kicked, slammed on floor
Joliet, IL (US)

Incident Date: Friday, Mar 25, 2005
County: Will

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: James Green-Fox

Police arrested James Green-Fox, 20, of Joliet, May 7, 2005, wanted for allegedly slamming his puppy, named Scrappy, on the floor and then kicking it against a wall in March.

James Green-Fox had been wanted on a $100,000 warrant for aggravated cruel treatment to an animal.

Police were investigating a burglary at an apartment on March 25 when they saw a boxer-mix puppy with a broken leg sitting inside a metal crate. The puppy was holding his right leg up and appeared to be malnourished and dehydrated, reports state. There was neither food nor water in the cage.

The apartment's tenant, a 26-year-old woman, told police the dog belonged to Green-Fox, her ex-boyfriend, according to reports.

The woman told police Green-Fox had grabbed Scrappy by the neck and "slammed the puppy down on the porch" after it tried to get out the back door, reports state.

"Once the dog was back on its feet, he kicked the dog so hard that it slammed up against the outside wall," the ex-girlfriend is quoted in reports as telling police.

The dog reportedly whimpered and whined the entire night after the abuse and then would not eat or drink for several days, according to reports. When the woman told Green-Fox the dog needed to go to a veterinarian, he refused out of fear that he might get in trouble, reports state.

The woman has not been charged.

Joliet Township Animal Control took possession of Scrappy.
