A pet store in Gallipolis shuts its doors and disposes of dozens of animals in the most inhumane way imaginable.

When the business left, its animals were left behind. Now most of those potential pets are dead, and two people are being held accountable: 45-year old Ralph Young and his wife 42-year old Brenda Young, both of Gallipolis.

They've each been charged with five counts of animal cruelty.

Gallia County Sheriff David Martin says, "It's just sad someone would take little helpless animals and just put them there to die in their cages."

Sheriff Martin says the two kept dozens of animals caged and left to die for months in a mobile home outside of Gallipolis.

"Some of the cages, there was just fur in them. They [were] (the animals) completely decayed," Martin recalls.

He said the smell alone in this house was almost as unsettling as the sight of all those innocent animals.

"They had actually just rotted in their cages. There was rats running inside the house. There was a big snake, as big as my leg seemed like!"

Both Ralph and Brenda Young posted bond. The Health Department has given them 48 hours to sanitize the trailer.
