Timothy Alan Freeman, 44, has been charged with animal cruelty for beating a 4-month old kitten. He was arrested last week after police found the beaten and abused kitten in a cabinet at his home.
Witnesses to the kitten's abuse said Freeman had slapped the kitten several times, then submerged it in water and threw it about 10 feet against a concrete wall.
Deputy District Attorney Dan Hess said "The different types of ways he abused the kitten was excessively cruel and borderline torture."
The kitten was suffering from severe shock and had some internal bleeding, but it is expected to fully recover. Two other kittens were taken from Freeman's custody.
Hess said the kitten's age contributed to the felony charge.
If convicted he could face up to three years in prison and up to $20,000 in fines.
Case UpdatesTimothy Alan Freeman, 45, was sentenced to 120 days in jail for torturing a kitten by repeatedly dunking it in a children's swimming pool and hurling it against a brick wall. Freeman is also ordered to undergo psychiatric counseling.
Judge William Evans told Freeman he woudl face prison time if he violates terms of his three-year probation.
A jury convicted Freeman in June of felony cruelty to animals for the August 2000 incident. Freeman denied torturing the kitten, one of three that he owned. He said he was given the kitten a "flea dipping."
The kitten has a new name, Henley, and a new home.
The judge declined to prohibit Freeman from owning pets while he is on probation. | Source: The Orange County Register - Aug 4, 2001 Update posted on Jun 1, 2005 - 7:15PM |
