An unidentified 68-year old woman has been taken into custody after telling the police that inner voices told her to baptize her cats by pouring scalding water on six of her cats and killing them.

The neighbors also saw her throw some of the cats against the side of her home Thursday morning and another neighbor told the Dade City police he found a dead cat on the trunk of her car.

Her identity is not being released because she is a psychiatric patient and was committed under Florida's Baker Act. The State Attorney's office will investigate the case to see if animal cruelty charges should be filed. The woman is known to have had a long history of psychiatric problems.

It seems the woman had not been taking her medicine to help with her emotional and mental stress. Neighbors said the day before the killings she was roaming the neighborhood yelling incoherently and leaving empty casserole dishes in driveways.

The cats were her only pets. The police report said she was "cleansing her cats and baptizing them to get them ready for heaven."
