Dogs poisoned with antifreeze
Rankin, MS (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Mar 31, 2005
County: Rankin

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Across the neighborhood children are searching for anyone with information about who may have killed their pets.

"This is Lilly, and she's dying from antifreeze poisoning," said Lisa Scott, holding her puppy in her arms on Thursday. Hours later, Scott held Lilly when the veterinarian put her to sleep.

Across the neighborhood the story is the same. "I just held him and cried and he took his last breath in my arms," said Tammy Evans, whose poodle also succumbed to antifreeze.

Roxanne, a year old stray dog who was recently adopted, is barely alive. Crystals from the antifreeze are killing her kidneys. Her vet has said she probably will not survive.

"They're these sweet little poodle, schizu. I think it's very sick, cruel, and sad," said Scott. And killing animals is a serious crime, punishable by up to 3 years in the penitentiary.

"If we can prove someone has been poisoning or killing these dogs, that is a felony," said Sheriff Ronnie Pennington.

It is not known if every case is related, although Sheriff Pennington says his investigators have been interviewing a person of interest in the antifreeze poisoning deaths.
