Antoinette Nelson, 38, of 1411 Gulfstream Circle, No. 303, Brandon was arrested on a charge of felony animal cruelty after she allegedly kicked a kitten and slammed it in a door. Nelson was released after posting a $1,000 bail.
She faces either a maximum of five years in jail, a $10,000 fine or both if convicted.
Nelson was visiting a relative in Valrico and got into an argument with her relative and took out her anger on the kitten. She is accused of slamming the cat between the door and the door jamb in the relative's home.
She then closed the animal in a closet and left the house.
Family members called Animal Services when they realized the kitten was having convulsions. The 8-10 week old kitten could not stand on its hind legs, was in shock and showed signs of neurological damage. The kitten was euthanized on January 20.
After Nelson's arrest she turned over the ownership of two other cats to the Animal Services. Neighborhood MapFor more information about the Interactive Animal Cruelty Maps, see the map notes.
