Dog burned with acid or boiling water
Pittsburgh, PA (US)

Incident Date: Sunday, Feb 25, 2001
County: Allegheny

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

A two year old female terrier mix with burns over 75% of her back was taken to the Animal Rescue League in Eastern Liberty. Animal control officers picked up the 40-pound dog Sunday on Wellesley Avenue in Highland Park.

When she was taken to a veterinarian, they said the burns appear to be from acid or boiling water.

There were no identification tags on the dog.

The clinic said "In spite of the pain she is in, she has a good temperament and was definitely someone's pet. She is well-fed and has good muscle tone."

She has been called "Phoenix" at the clinic. The staff hopes to see her regain her health and return to a normal life as a pet. Treatment was paid for by the Lucky Fund, established by the Animal Rescue League to provide emergency aid to homeless and stray pets.

They think once she recovers from the physical trauma, she could be put up for adoption and become a very good pet because of her sweet temperament.

Anyone that has information that might lead to the identification of the dor or its attackers to please call the Animal Rescue League at 412 661-6452.
