A cat missing since early March in Methuen turned up dead in April, tied by his hind legs and hanging from a tree, animal welfare officials said.
MSPCA Law Enforcement Director Peter Gollub said the cat was found April 6 in the vicinity of the owner's home in the Pelham Street area. He would not say who found the cat.
The MSPCA is offering a $1,000 reward for information leading to the conviction of the cat's killer. The family that owned the cat is putting up an additional $500. If convicted, a person faces a five-year sentence and up to a $2,500 fine, according to the MSPCA.
