more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Three teenagers from the Pea Ridge area must be supervised when around animals as a condition of their probation after pleading guilty to animal cruelty. The

Two of the youths entered guilty pleas on April 13, 2005 at a hearing before Circuit Judge Jay Finch. One teen pleaded guilty to criminal mischief in the first degree, a class C felony, and cruelty to animals, a class A misdemeanor. The other teen pleaded guilty to cruelty.

The third juvenile previously pleaded guilty to the felony and misdemeanor charges.

The teens - ages 13, 14 and 15 - were arrested for killing a cow with a machete and wooden post.

Officials said that over a period of several days in October 2004, the boys injured the cow with a machete, then returned over a course of several days and hit the cow with a wooden post. The animal was bludgeoned to death, according to authorities. The teens also shot the animal with a BB gun.

Finch placed the teens on juvenile probation for a year and ordered that they be supervised when around animals.

He also ordered the teens to give a face-to-face apology to the cow's owner. The juveniles must pay the owner restitution.

All three are in counseling.

On April 13, Finch warned the two teens appearing before him that cruelty to animals is a bad omen unless the problem is dealt with immediately.
