A Central Ohio man said someone shot, killed and decapitated one of his pets. Goethe Thurairatnam said he found the body of his dog, Lucky, on the morning of March 22 at the end of his driveway on Purity Road in Mary Ann Township.

At first, Thurairatnam thought Lucky had been hit by a car. But when he reached the animal, he saw that Lucky had been shot in the leg and his head was missing. The head was later found behind Thurairatnam's property, according to the Newark Advocate.

Thurairatnam has about 28 dogs on his property.

"These are my babies," he said. "Ever since I was a kid, I loved German Shepard mixed dogs."

Lucky was one of Thurairatnam's favorites. He said Lucky was not in good health when he was born, so he took him into his house and nurtured him.

"That's why I called him Lucky," Thurairatnam said.

Thurairatnam said someone could have been trying to send him a message to not have so many dogs. He is legally allowed to have that many dogs, Bowersock reported.

Licking County Animal Control is investigating the incident.
