An unidentified 58-year old Albee Township man may be prosecuted on charges of deliberately driving his pickup truck over a curb to kill a black cat.

The man insists it was an accident.

An eyewitness, Debra J. Fifield, 47, said she called police after seeing the truck run over the cat one morning last week outside the front window of her mobile home.

Fifield, who recognized the truck driver said, "The cat was going thru a seizure. I was upset. I had tears in my eyes."

She confronted the driver when he returned to dispose of the dead animal. She told the driver she was going to call the police and to leave dead cat. "He told me to get in my trailer and mind my own business."

"I said, 'This is my own business, running over animals.' And he said, 'We'll see about that.'"

"He said, 'The cats should not be reproducing more kittens. I'll keep hitting them.' He even told the sheriff that he he'll keep doing it. He said he don't like cats."

The owner of the black cat is not known.

Willfully or maliciously killing or injuring an animal is a four year felony, punishable by fines of up to $5,000 and 500 hours of community service.
