A Dover man was arrested in March 2005 and charged with fatally shooting a dog with a shotgun and dragging it into a ditch. The man claimed the dog was attacking his livestock. State police in Dover said the dog was a significant distance from the man's farm animals when it was shot.

The man was charged with misdemeanor counts for discharging their firearms at unsafe distances from houses and for shooting the animal.
