Christopher Wilson Attari, of 1011 Brandon Avenue, Columbia, was arrested on a charge of ill treatment of animals.
Attari has been charged with hitting a cat with a shovel, burying it, and causing it to die.
He had a bail hearing on July 23 at Richland County Detention Center and was released from jail after posting a $5,000 bond.
Executive Director of the Humane Society of the Midlands, Henry Brzezinski, said Attari was also ordered to have no contact with animals.
