A San Antonio animal control worker that reportedly works at the city's animal shelter is facing a criminal animal abuse charge after allegedly beating a cat to death. The incident reportedly happened early this month, at the main shelter facility on Tuleta.
The new animal control director wouldn't release details of the incident, but new reports confirmed that it was witnessed by two other employees.
"We're not sure that training alone would have prevented the incident. I think there were some issues with the individual that he brought to the work site," said Animal Administrator Sam Sanchez.
The D.A.'s office does confirm they're moving ahead with a criminal charge against the man, most likely a third degree felony.
For now, he's on paid administrative leave. Case UpdatesA city employee accused of beating a cat to death at the pound was arrested and charged with felony animal cruelty, News 4 WOAI learned Tuesday.
