A College Station man accused of kicking his girlfriend's puppy so hard that its eyes bled was indicted March 24, 2005 by a Brazos County grand jury.
Jordan Blaine Hector, 25, admitted during an interview with police in January that he kicked the 8-week-old Shih Tzu, according to court documents. But he told police he never intended to kick the animal so hard and generally is a gentle person.
He could face up to two years' incarceration if convicted of the cruelty to animals charge, which is a state jail felony.
Veterinarians at the Texas A&M University Small Animal Clinic first suspected the puppy, named Fendi, had been abused when she was brought in by Hector's girlfriend in September along with another puppy that was dead on arrival, according to court documents.
The deceased animal was determined to have suffered bleeding from the eyes, as well as internal bleeding in the brain and jaw muscles.
Fendi, who also was bleeding from the eyes, was breathing shallowly and salivating excessively, the vets reported. The injuries seemed to be symptoms of head trauma or strangulation, they said.
When the puppy returned to the clinic about three weeks later with a partially collapsed lung, displaced jaw and other injuries, an animal control officer was called to investigate.
During a subsequent interview with College Station police, Hector said he kicked the puppy one day when he was trying to keep it from running out an open door. He didn't realized how badly the puppy was hurt, he told police.
Since then, the Shih Tzu - now named Snyder - has been adopted by an employee at the clinic
