Officers from both the Marion County Sheriff's Office and the county's Animal Control came to his home on Saturday after a disgruntled customer was unhappy with his services. Investigators inspected the animals' living conditions, discovering that some of the dogs were allegedly in cages too small, or were lying in their own feces and urine.
A few weeks ago, 45-year-old Cindi Morrison of Palm Harbor, Fla. sent her dog to Castenada for training. According to a police report, Morrison says she tried many times to get in touch with Castenada to check on the progress of her dog, but when she could not get him on the telephone, she decided to drive to his residence. On Saturday, Morrison arrived at Castenada's house where she found over a dozen dogs, but no Castenada. Animal Control officers searched the residence, taking custody of six german shepards they claim were malnourished or covered in mange.
Castenada denies the charges, saying the dogs were purposely kept skinny because they are show dogs, and that the puppy with mange had an auto-immune system problem that caused the condition. He was released on his own recognizance, and must now appear in court. References | WESH via Yahoo News | | WCJB - March 28, 2005 |
