Cat shootings started after Christmas Coppell, TX (US)Incident Date: Saturday, Dec 26, 1998 County: Dallas
Disposition: Open
Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!
The first cat shooting was reported the day after Christmas. The cat, Lily, nine years old was the first victim in a series of cat shootings reported to authorities.
It is thought perhaps someone got a gun for Christmas.
Lily was shot in the leg. Her leg is in a cast. Doctors say it could be as long as 12 weeks before they know whether she will fully recover.
The All Care Veterinary Hospital has treated about five cats in the last few weeks and Lily was the only one that survived. The cats have been shot in the eyes, side or legs. It is believed a "forceful pellet gun" was used to injure and kill the cats.
Coppell police Captain Gary Nix said the five reported cat shootings have occurred in the northwest Dallas County suburb.
Captain Nix said, "It's an extremely, extremely sad situation. Pets are such a personal thing to people. We are doing what we can to solve it and resolve it. It's just a cruel thing to happen." If you have information on this case, please contact: Coppell Police Department 972 304-3610
