Students at the Huntington High School found a kitten on school grounds last week that had been burned and beaten. The kitten was barely alive when the students found it.

The tan kitten's head and face had been burned all the way to the skull. Animal control officials later killed the kitten.

The teachers, residents and Huntington-Cabell-Wayne Animal Control raised $500 reward which would be given to anyone who could identify those responsible for the torture of the little kitten.

Two high school students have been charged with torturing a kitten on school grounds. Their names and ages are not available.

Principal Charles Buell said, "In the halls and outside, the general comment of the students was that they had really hoped that the individuals responsible would be identified. I think the student population was as disgusted by this act as the adult population."

If convicted, the two students could spend six months in a juvenile detention facility.

One of the juveniles was released with a monitoring device to guardians. The other had unrelated pending charges and was sent to a juvenile detention center in Dunbar.
