Peg Tolman,of Lewis Street inFair Haven, found the body of one of her cats burned in a playground across the street from her home.

Tolman contacted police on Thursday to report the killing. She said she walked to the playground when she saw one of her other cats sitting behind a swing set howling. When Tolman investigated, she found the burned carcass of a cat in a sandy pit.

Peg Tolman looks after approximately 30 stray or abandoned cats, and this incident was not the first time a cat has disappeared or been abused.

No leads presently available as to the person or persons that might have burned the cat and left the charred body in the playground.
