A severely injured pit bull terrier is recovering from a variety of wounds after it was found on the grass outside an Indianapolis office building. Veterinarians say the dog may have been shot with a BB gun, hit by a car and attacked by other animals before making its way to doors of the Benicorp office building on the city's northwest side.
That's where office worker Alissa Fernandez found the dog on March 18.
"I was out just taking my normal break and saw this poor little dog laying in the grass," Fernandez said.
Fernandez said she could tell something was very wrong.
"I got a closer look at him and saw that he was badly injured," Fernandez said. "You know, he had bite marks all over and wasn't moving much. You could see his ribs sticking out and his hip bones and all that -- wasn't in good shape."
The dog was taken to the VCA animal hospital. Veterinarians say the dog may require a skin graft and other surgery.
Fernandez and her fellow Benicorp employees have named the dog Benny.
"For Benicorp, of course," Fernandez said.
They're also trying to raise money to help pay for his vet bills, which may top $1,400.
About half of that amount has already been raised.
