Disposition: Open
Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!
A Levittown woman, Barbara Shaw, called police on April 8 and said she found her cat Dimples at the front door of her Fountain Road home with a gunshot wound to the stomach. Dimples was taken to the veterinarian but the cat had to be euthanized.
Barbara Shaw posted a $300 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person or person who shot Dimples.
In the next few days the reward grew to $1,000 said Cecilia Middleton, Middletown Township's animal control officer. Cecilia Middleton canvassed the neighborhood with an investigator from the SPCA. The neighborhood visit was to put people on notice that authorities plan to deal with such incidents severely.
Anyone convicted of maiming or killing a cat or dog faces a minimum fine of $1,000 and up to two years in jail.
The SPCA director said one of the problems involved in such cases is people are under the misconception that roaming cats are fair game.
People who own cats are encouraged to keep them at home, but even a stray is protected by law.
