A Bardstown resident is claiming animal cruelty is a growing problem after her dog was shot in the face. The 12-week-old puppy survived the attack, but a bullet passed through the jaw, just behind its teeth.
The dog's owner, believes animal cruelty is a problem in Nelson County.
The investigating officer, is looking into the incident.
However, there were no suspects as of press time Tuesday.
Bardstown Police Chief said the department is committed to finding the person responsible.
Those responsible could face wanton endangerment and animal cruelty charges, authorities stated.
It is believed the dog was shot at for two days before it was hit. According to a neighbor's accounts, gunshots were heard in the neighborhood for two days, before the dog was found wounded in her pen.
The dog's veterinarian later confirmed it was a bullet wound.
Cases of animal cruelty have noticeably increased of late, according to Nelson County Dog Warden Larry Wimsett.
