Officials of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty Animals were shocked that someone shot a four-year old black Labrador, called Bubba, and left it by a road to die on Cape Sable Island.

The dog was discovered on Wednesday and was taken to a veterinarian for surgery. Bubba had been shot four times.

SPCA officials said Bubba was doing better and was able to stand and eat on Thursday. Additional surgery on the dog is scheduled for Friday.

Bubba's owner has been located.
