James Roberts, 21, of Gordo has admitted killing a German shepherd mix, Bubba, that belonged to a neighbor. Roberts and his sister, Kayla, said the dog tried to attack Kayla while they were on a deer hunt.

Judge C.O. Burkhalter didn't believe his defense. He convicted Roberts of misdemeanor animal cruelty for killing the dog.

Roberts has also been convicted of wounding a rat terrier, Molly, that also belonged to his neighbor, Sarah McGee.

Roberts was orderd to pay $200 in fines, $231 in court costs and more than $500 in restitution for veterinary bills and the value of the animal killed.

Roberts is going to appeal the conviction in hopes of getting a jury trial.

Sarah McGee said, "The only thing I have to say is that justice has been done."
