Santa Cruz police have arrested Patrick Warywoda for allegedly stabbing a dog. The incident reportedly occurred at a skate park.

It was reported the Warywoda attacked the dog without any provocation by the animal, police stated.

Patrick Warywoda, 34, was arrested a short time later after witnesses identified him to responding police officers.

The dog, named Chopper, suffered two stab wounds and was rushed to a local veterinarian. The dog is listed in critical condition.

The knife was later recovered, police stated.

Warywoda was booked into county jail on one felony animal cruelty charge and for an outstanding warrant.

Bail has been set at $50,000.
