Case Updates: 1 update(s) available

A small dog, whose owner has not yet been located, was burned with what authorities believe to be some sort of acid or scalding water. J.J. is part chihuahua, part dachshund. He was brought into the York Animal Control and Rescue shelter a week ago. He was severely burned on his back and neck.

"I think it's some type of liquid burn whether it's scalding water or acid, something, because of the way the burns are across his back and collar area," Smeltzer said.

A York city animal control officer brought him in after someone found the dog on the 300 block of South Pershing Street in York.

"Whenever you come in he's laying down. He doesn't feel like walking around much but he's eating very well," Smeltzer said.

They're giving J.J. antibiotics, and Smeltzer said he should recover from his burns.

"As long as his temperament is fine, he'll be fine. He'll need special care. He's been through a trauma, but as long as he lets us handle him we'll do what we can to find him a new home," Smeltzer said.

If you know the dog's owner or have information about what happened, you're asked to call the York City Animal Control officer or the Rescue League of York County at 244-9747.
