Two golden retrievers were found shot in the Grant Creek area over the weekend. The Missoula County Sheriff's deputies and owners are seeking information that will lead to arrest and conviction of person or persons involved.
One dog, Barkley, survived but had to have right his right rear leg amputated. The other dog, Kaya, was found dead in a field.
The man who found the two dogs said hew as walking hear his home on Glen Eagel Way about 4:30 p.m. on Saturday when he saw Barkley limping towards him. The dog was bleeding. The man also saw a black Ford Bronco II parked nearby and called to the driver, a teenage boy, to ask if he lost his dog.
The boy said he hadn't lost a dog. Then, the man asked if the boy or one of his two passengers had shot a dog. The boy said they had been hunting coyotes, thought they saw one chasing sheep and shot it. The boy then sped away in the truck.
The man took Barkley to the Animal Clinic where the dog's leg was amputated. He also found the other dog dead in a field.
Sheriff's Lt Rich Maricelli asks anyone with information about the shooting or about who owns the older model black Bronco, with a white strip and primer showing in several spots, to call his office at 523-4810 or Crimestoppers at 721-4444.
