Dog hanged
Laguna Hills, CA (US)

Incident Date: Friday, Feb 22, 2002
County: Orange

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

Joseph Dietlin, 34, thinks someone has killed his pet Pomeranian, when Butch was found hanging off a 2 foot high ledge with his leash knotted and wrapped around a lattice.

Dietlin is offering a $5,000 reward for information. "I just can't believe someone would do this." "(The person) came onto a private residence and hurt someone else's dog."

Joseph Dietlin and Ryan Snow had left their two Pomeranians, Butch and Mati, at the home of Snow's father in the 25000 block of Sycamore Lane when they moved into an Aliso Viejo complex that prohibits dogs.

The two dogs had been at the Snow residence for three days when Dietlin found Butch dead hanging by his leash.

The Pomeranian, Mati, was inside the house unharmed.

Snow's neighbors had complained about the dogs' barking. The Sheriff's department say the death is suspicious, but investigators haven't ruled out the possibility the dog could have hung itself.

Kathy Francis, Orange County Animal Control spokeswoman, said such an accident such as the leash becoming entangled with other objects, choking or strangling a dog are rare.
