Zorona Doster, 31, pleaded guilty "in her best interest" to felony cruelty to animals and other charges. Doster pleaded guilty to retaliating against a witness and charges stemming from two carjackings; false imprisonment and two counts of robbery.

Doster poured bleach down the throat of an 8-month old Shih Tzu mix named Max to get back at a cousin who was to testify against her. Doster's cousin told police that Doster had bragged about a carjacking.

Max was a Christmas present for her cousin's children. He later died as a result of his injuries.

She will serve five years on probation. She will start with a stay at the county's "drug farm" treatment program.

Doster's attorney said, "She's an admitted drug addict very willing to get treatment. There is no doubt the reason she is here is because she suffers from the disease of addiction."

Assistant State Attorney David Lee said, Doster was begging to go to the drug farm and the case was weakening, so the deal was offered to her. She faced up to 45 years in prison and could be sentenced to that if she violates the terms of her probation.
