Michael Washington, 51, 3800 block of Southwest 25th Street has been charged with cruelty to animals after he allowed a rope to become imbedded around an 8-month old Rottweiler puppy's neck.

It was an anonymous tip that brought deputies to Washington's home on Feb 5th where they found the puppy emaciated, worm invested and with a rope imbedded in the flesh around its neck. The deputies confiscated the puppy.

The dog was taken to an animal hospital for treatment. The veterinarian cut the noose off its throat and nursed the dog back to health.

The dog has since been adopted by an area family.

After an investigation, the BSO Cruelty Unit detectives conferred with the Broward State Attorney and Washington has been charged with cruelty to animals.

Washington was taken into custody and is being held in the Broward County Jail in lieu of $8,000 bond.
