Thomas Fong, 24, who works as a Manhattan stock trader was charged with beating his girlfriend's 14-year-old Shetland collie to death.
Thomas Fong, was arraigned in Manhattan Criminal Court on burglary and aggravated cruelty to animal charges for the death of the dog.
"He broke into his girlfriend's apartment or ex-girlfriend's apartment and ... beat her dog to death," Assistant District Attorney Tiana Walton stated in court, adding that Fong had "made threats against both the girlfriend and her dog."
Zorbas allegedly came home from a doctor's appointment on March 10th to find her dog, Alexander, whimpering and pools of blood and urine on the floor, according to the criminal complaint.
At 1:30 a.m. the next day, she found the collie in the bathroom, dead, the complaint states.
"I beat her dog when she was at her doctor's appointment," Fong allegedly admitted to someone else, according to the complaint.
The dog died of internal bleeding from blunt force trauma and suffered broken bones, broken ribs and internal bleeding, according to a veterinarian at North Shore Animal Hospital.
Fong, who was held in lieu of $20,000 bond and $10,000 bail, is a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania business school and worked as an equity analyst and trader, the attorney said. After moving to New York, he was employed by First New York Securities and now trades on his own.
Case UpdatesA year ago, prosecutors branded him a dog killer, capable of literally bludgeoning a miniature collie to death, then leaving the blood-matted corpse in his girlfriend's bathtub. They even hinted that he had "issues of bestiality."
But yesterday, Thomas Fong's yearlong torment â€" marked by public humiliation, the loss of his New York stock-analyst job and the threat of up to 15 years prison came to an end.
Fong, 25, was cleared in Manhattan Supreme Court of committing felony burglary and aggravated cruelty to animals at an apartment on West 34th Street and Eighth Avenue.
Prosecutors told the judge that after a thorough investigation, the horrible charges could not be proven beyond a reasonable doubt. | Source: NY Post Online - Feb 3, 2006 Update posted on Feb 3, 2006 - 10:58AM |
