Dog tied up and shot
Big Creek Lake, IA (US)

Incident Date: Thursday, Oct 31, 2002
County: Polk

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

The Animal Rescue League of Iowa has offered a reward of $500 and the owner, Chad Rouh, has offered a reward of $100 for information leading to conviction of the person or persons who tied up the Doberman pinscher and shot it twice in the head near Big Creek Lake.

Chaos, the 3-year old dog, is one of three canines owned by Chad Rouh. He was found by Polk County Sheriff's officials on Oct 31 tied to a gate that blocks off a recreational area near Big Creek Lake. Another one of Rouh's dogs, Cyrus, a 2-year old Doberman pinscher is also missing.

A threatening message was left twice last month with the rescue league about the dogs running loose. The executive director of the rescue league, Tom Colvin, called the death brutal.

Colvin said, "The fact the dog was tied up and shot, there's no doubt in my mind that it was intentional."

Rouh's dog's had been taken to the rescue league twice for being strays. He said they stayed in their 21x10 foot chain link kennel during the day. Rouh does not have any idea how they escaped from their kennel.

"Never in my three years of living here have I had any complaints that they were a nuisance. They were real friendly dogs."

Both dogs had collars, tags and had been microchipped between their shoulder blades.

Rouh says, "I just need closure on it. I just need to know if I have another dog out there."
