Neighbors complained that a Great Dane, Cassie, had been abandoned at 7730 Dawson Drive S.E. On Wednesday evening township police removed the dog from the empty house.

Officer Jeff Urso who rescued the dog said the dog looked weak and had trouble moving her head. The home was extremely unsanitary.

Urso entered the home through an open kitchen window. After getting inside he saw a large amount of animal feces on the floor and two buckets one had dirty water and the other empty. There were two empty bags of dog food and rotting meat in the refrigerator. None of the utilities were working.

When Urso contacted the dog's owner, he said he was having marital difficulties but he did not indicate what he planned to do with his dog.

The Animal Welfare League had received calls about the condition of dog living at the home and they had left various notices with the owner regarding the dog.

Chief of Police Steve Lamantia said "We haven't had one like this in a long time." No charges have been filed as of this date.
