A skinny, starving Rottweiler was left behind when the family moved away leaving him abandoned in the home for approximately 2-3 weeks without any care being provided.

Neighbors on Fern Street said the family had moved away two or three weeks ago and abandoned their dog. A stranger brought by 20 pounds of dog food and asked the neighbors to provide water for the dog, but the neighbors declined to provide water for the Rottweiler. Several of the neighbors said they knew the dog was abandoned and not eating, but no one gave the dog food or water.

When Akron Animal Warden Denny Septer called to the emaciated Rottweiler, the dog happily ran to him and climbed into his truck.

An attempt will be made to locate the family to learn whether the owners left the animal to die of starvation. They would like to bring the owners in to ask them why they would leave a beautiful animal like this to die. "When we find them we will cite them, and take them to court for what they did."

The dog was taken to the Summit County Animal Shelter, 466 E. North Street, Akron. He wil be put up for adoption on Tuesday and in keeping with the shelter's policy will be euthanized if he's not adopted by Thursday.
