A former animal control officer has been arrested after Aiken County authorities said more than 40 dogs were found at the woman's home. Callie Bagshaw, 40, was charged Wednesday with ill treatment of animals.

Chief Enforcement Officer Shirley Harden says officers recovered nine adult dogs, 21 puppies and eleven newborn Dachshunds living in poor conditions. Harden says there were up to four dogs living in one crate. Officers say dogs were living in small cat carriers stacked on top of each other in Bagshaw's carport.

Officers also are investigating Bagshaw's property in another county where she may have more than 200 dogs.
