more information on voting
When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.
Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "Peoples Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isnt enough.

Cat starved to death Miami, FL (US)Incident Date: Friday, Jul 12, 2002 County: Miami-Dade
Disposition: Convicted
Defendant/Suspect: Christie Prody
Case Updates: 1 update(s) available
Christie Prody has been charged with animal cruelty when she left her cat to starve to death while she left town for a month. Neighbors state they had not seen the cat for quite along time and Prody 's apartment has a foul smell coming from it. Prody is the ex-girlfriend of OJ Simpson.
Arraignment is July 26, 2002.
Prody was cited for one count of animal cruelty, a first-degree misdemeanor carrying a $500 fine, Miami-Dade Police spokeswoman Nelda Fonticiella said Tuesday. She said police believe the cat ``died of starvation,'' but was too decomposed for a necropsy.
Case UpdatesChristie Prody pleaded no contest on Tuesday to animal cruelty in the starvation death of her pet cat.
Prody was accused of leaving her cat in her condominium for approximately 45 days while she was out of town. A neighbor reported to the police not seeing Prody for weeks. The police listed her as a missing person and went to O. J. Simpson. Prody was his sometime girlfriend. Simpson called Prody with police present and confirmed she was well.
Prody has been ordered to pay court costs and donate $500 to animal welfare group when she pleaded no contest to the animal cruelty charge.
The County Judge Loree Schwartz Feiler ignored the prosecutors' request for a sentence that would have included probation and community service. Prody didn't show up in court and her plea was entered through her lawyer.
Prody will also pay $161 in courts costs and an undetermined amount for the investigation. Prody's record will be erased if she fulfills the sentence.
If convicted Prody, could have faced a year in jail and a $1,000 fine for the first-degree misdemeanor animal cruelty charge.
The prosecutor had asked Brody to plead guilty and be sentenced to six months probation, 100 community service hours and pay a $500 fine. | Source: Associated Press - Dec 17, 2002 Update posted on Aug 13, 2006 - 9:28AM |
