Dogs starved, feeding on carcass Atlanta, GA (US)Incident Date: Sunday, Feb 27, 2005 County: Fulton
Disposition: Alleged
Alleged: » Loretta Green » Phillip Wallace
A northwest Atlanta woman was arrested after one of her dogs starved to death and the other, on the brink of dying, was found feeding on the remains, police said. Neighbors told police they repeatedly went by Loretta Green's house at 403 Westlake Ave. to tell her that her 4-year-old dog, Dos, had died.
She reportedly told them her boyfriend would move the dog's body. But the body remained in the back yard of the house, behind a chain-link fence with a "Beware of the Dog" sign.
A few days later, when area children out playing saw the second dog, Tweetie, eating the dead dog's leg, someone placed a call to police.
When officers arrived, they found the dogs' bowls covered with leaves and dirt.
"The dog was dead. The entire rear end of the animal was missing. There were no rear legs, buttocks or tail," wrote Officer A.E. Soeldner in her report.
The second dog had begun to show organ damage and was in the final stages of starvation, according to Dr. Melinda Merck, a veterinarian who has done work for Fulton County Animal Services.
Green, 43, first told police that she regularly fed the dogs. Then she said her boyfriend, Phillip Wallace, was responsible for their care.
But Wallace, 49, was a truck driver and would be gone for periods of time, Green said.
Neighbor Tasha Stewart said that her children had tried to throw scraps to the dogs but were told by Green not to feed them, according to the police report.
Green was charged with one count of felony animal cruelty for the dead dog, and one count of misdemeanor animal cruelty for neglect and starvation. Once he is found, Wallace will be charged similarly, police said. References- Atlanta Journal Constitution - Feb 28, 2005
