Friday afternoon, Parkersburg police and Humane Society officers followed up on a tip from an anonymous caller. The caller said that animals were being abused at a home on Pickering Street and officers say what they found was a sad sight.
"May God strike me dead on the spot. I would never ever hurt an animal in a million years," said Russetta Naylor.
Naylor and her boyfriend John Snider are both charged with five counts of animal abuse. Abuse that police say went so far it killed two animals and left the other three in a critical state.
"The three puppies were starving to death, had mange and their fur was falling off. The conditions were filthy," said Parkersburg Police Chief Bob Newell.
Naylor says she was framed, "My ex-boyfriend starved my animals to death. He murdered them."
The couple lived at the same home where police and humane society officers say they found the abused dogs in a cage hidden under a tarp.
Naylor says she was sick, "I was in bed for two weeks. I had the flu and my back was out of place and I couldn't take care of my babies."
The humane society's director says the dogs also had parasites in their intestines. Rich Hudson says, "The condition could have been going on for months and it can become even more critical over time."
Naylor says she loves animals, "I accidentally ran over a possum. I got a shovel and buried it. I'm just not that type of person."
Parkersburg Police have issued an arrest warrant for Naylor's boyfriend. He has not yet been located.
Case UpdatesPolice arrested 32-year-old John Snider during a routine traffic stop around 3:30 Saturday afternoon.
Both Snider and his girlfriend, Russetta Naylor, are charged with five counts of animal abuse after police found two dead dogs in their Pickering Street home and three others starving to death back in February.
Naylor was arrested at the time, but Snider was nowhere to be found until Saturday. He was held at the Wood County Jail and was released on bond late Saturday.
There's no word yet on how much the bond was for. | Source: WTAP - March 20, 2005 Update posted on Mar 21, 2005 - 7:14AM |
