Springfield, OR (US)

Incident Date: Saturday, Feb 26, 2005
County: Lane

Disposition: Alleged

Alleged: Kenneth James Rollins

A Springfield man may be charged with animal cruelty after stabbing his girlfriend's dog during a domestic dispute Feb. 26.

According to Springfield police, at around 11:24 p.m., Kenneth James Rollins, 39, was involved in a heated dispute with his girlfriend at a residence in the 1200 block of Modoc Street.

The female told police Rollins was intoxicated, threw her down and would not let her out of the bedroom when her dog came to her defense. The animal reportedly bit Rollins, who grabbed a pair of scissors and stabbed it.

The dog was taken to a veterinarian after police arrived, but had to be euthanized because of the severity of its injuries.

Police Sgt. Mike McCarthy said the incident is still under investigation.
