weak sentence = one star

more information on voting

When you vote, you are voting on whether or not the punishment fit the crime, NOT on the severity of the case itself. If you feel the sentence was very weak, you would vote 1 star. If you feel the sentence was very strong, you would vote 5 stars.

Please vote honestly and realistically. These ratings will be used a a tool for many future programs, including a "People’s Choice" of best and worst sentencing, DA and judge "report cards", and more. Try to resist the temptation to vote 1 star on every case, even if you feel that 100 years in prison isn’t enough.

Dog shot and killed
Salem, NY (US)

Incident Date: Friday, Oct 22, 2004
County: Westchester

Disposition: Convicted

Defendant/Suspect: Robert J. Bounds

A Salem teen who shot and killed a neighbor's dog last year will serve 6 months in jail under a plea deal he agreed to on Feb 17, 2005. Robert J. Bounds, 18, of Blind Buck Road, pleaded guilty in Washington County Court to aggravated animal cruelty, a felony, in the Oct. 22 shooting of a 15-year-old bichon.

Bounds was arrested a short time after the dog was shot to death with a 12-gauge shotgun at close range on Pitts Hill Lane. He told police the dog had been aggressive toward him, but authorities discounted that explanation in part because Bounds was in a pickup truck when he fired at the dog.

In addition to 6 months in Washington County Jail, Bounds is to spend 5 years on probation.
