Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

A dog estimated to be about one year old was found bound, stabbed and bleeding in a resident's recycling bin in the 5100 block of Richard Road.

Wayne Gilbert, spokesman for the Virginia Beach Animal Control Bureau, said a passerby found the Labrador mix with two stab wounds to the chest and one to the neck. A bloody pillowcase was found on top of the bin.

The injured dog was taken to Little Neck Animal Hospital where it was treated for a broken rib and cuts.

The dog's owner is not known and there aren't any suspects for the stabbing.

If the person is found, they face misdemeanor charges of animal cruelty if it is a first offense, or felony charges if the offender has previous convictions for animal cruelty in which the animal died.

Note: Classifications and other fields should not be used to determine what specific charges the suspect is facing or was convicted of - they are for research and statistical purposes only. The case report and subsequent updates outline the specific charges. Charges referenced in the original case report may be modified throughout the course of the investigation or trial, so case updates, when available, should always be considered the most accurate reflection of charges.
