When a woman who lives in Ridgecrest, 1100 block of North Scott Street, went to leave her house she felt threatened by three dogs. The woman went back into her home and told her husband. Her husband found the dogs in the yard. He shot and killed one of the dogs when it threatened him.

The remaining two dogs were found at the owner's home on North Las Posas Street.

Ridgecrest Animal Control Officer Dan Sutton later took one of the dogs to the shelter and attempted to secure the backyard fence where the remaining dog was located.

The dead dog was taken to by Sutton to the animal shelter.

Sergeant Jesse Jones said an individual may use a gun in self defense, in defense of family and defense of property.

"Everything you do will be questioned and investigated," said Jones, when someone uses a weapon for self defense.

The incident will be investigated by the district attorney to see if the shooting was justified.

Jones said the same procedure is used if a law enforcement incident occurs.
