Cockfighting - 43 birds seized

Deputies and animal control agents busted a cockfight in the middle of an orange grove near the tiny community and arrested 17 people. Several cars were left at the scene as their owners ran away. The people arrested came from as far away as San Francisco for the fight, sheriff's Lt. Marsh Carter said.

Gambling, guns, drugs and alcohol are commonly found during cock fights, Carter said.

All 43 of the birds were euthanized.
