Coalie, a 2-year old black Laborador was shot 12 times. The veterinarians at the Aspen Animal Hospital decided they could only safely remove one of the bullets from Coalie without a serious threat of infection.
The Laborador left the hospital with a broken jaw, a fragmented left paw and 11 bullets still lodged in her body. It is estimated that three or four more bullets pased completely through the dog's body as an unknown person shot her with a .22-caliber gun.
Rose Forbes and Dean Workman, want help in locating the person who tortured the lab and possibly killed her canine companion, a 4-year old Dalmatian.
Forbes lives in the El Jebel Mobile Home Park and when she was in the middle of spring cleaning April 11, the two dogs ran out the front door and down the street. She said they run off once in a while and are usually home in an hour or so.
Coalie came home a week and a half after she ran away still wearing her collar and identification tags. The lab was bleeding from numerous wounds and limped on a shattered front paw. Some of the bullet wounds were fresh and some were old.
Prints, the male Dalmatian, was found dead and the body was returned to Forbes and Workman. Prints was killed by a single .22-caliber bullet.
Forbes and Workman immediately contacted the Garfield County Sheriff's Office after Coalie returned home. The officers hope to find a fingerprint on the recovered bullet. The couple is offering a $500 reward for any information leading to an arrest. Workman said a man he met at the animal hospital even offered to tack on an extra $100 if the shooter is found.
Crimestoppers has offered a $1,000 reward leading to the arrest and/or indictment of the party responsible. Anyone with information can call anonymously 1-800-962-TIPS or go online to http://www.eaglesheriff.com and click on extra, extra.
