Police officers in Newburgh described a situation it as "horrid living conditions," after they found two young children living in squalor, surrounded by garbage, feces, drug paraphernalia and nine cats.
Police officers answered a call about a domestic dispute here on Carson Avenue, but entering the home they discovered unlivable conditions. They found open bags of garbage, animal feces they said in every room, even in the bathtub - dirty dishes littered the kitchen.
They took two children - a one year-old and a three year-old - placing them in protective custody.
Thirty four year-old Omaida Reyes, the mother of the children, was arrested and charged with reckless endangerment. She may also face drug charges. Her boyfriend Christopher Bachtler was arrested and charged with endangering the welfare of a child.
Even outside there were baby strollers and an old, rusted out motorcycle.
