William Dillashaw, 78, and Eula Dillashaw, 54, have been sentenced to probation for attacking a 40-pound Shar-pei. The dog named Pumpkin was shot repeatedly with a BB gun, stabbed at it with a pruning tool and ran over by a car. Pumpkin was skinned up a bit and had a BB hole but she seemed to be fine.

William and Eula were sentenced on one count each of animal cruelty. The couple could have faced up to five years in prison for the third-degree felony.

Circuit Judge C. McFerrin Smith imposed a $1,000 fine each or they could spend 30 days in jail for the animal cruelty.

Eula Dillashaw was also sentenced to perform 100 hours of community service at an animal rescue or similar facility.

Eula Dillashaw took the witness stand during the sentencing hearing and said her husband was in poor health. The court records show that William Dillashaw had emergency open-heart surgery. He has also suffered a stroke which has left him without a memory of the attack.

The Dillashaws claimed the dog had been threatening their cats. Prosecutors said Pumpkin, who had broken free from a chain, never posed a threat and described the couple's attack as unjustified and downright mean.

The police reports state that Eula Dillashaw shot the dog with a BB gun and her husband later fired at the dog with a .22-caliber pistol but missed. Eula Dillashaw also lunged at the dog with a pruning tool.

The dog ran under the couple's car and William Dillashaw started the car and drove over the animal.

Pumpkin was given away to another family shortly after the attack and she has recovered from her injuries.

The Dillashaws have 90 days to decide whether they will pay the pair of $1,000 fines or spend time in jail.
