Wolf-hybrid neglect Cameron, WV (US)Incident Date: Monday, Jan 31, 2005 County: Marshall
Disposition: Not Charged
Abuser names unreleased
Marshall County Dog Warden Michael Baker was called to a Church Street, Cameron residence last week on authority of the sheriff's department to seize two wolf-hybrid dogs that reportedly were being mistreated.
In 2002, Baker had cited the same Cameron resident for reportedly allowing the "wolfdogs" to run loose. Since then, he says he's been at the residence "at least five times" responding to complaints about the animals. "Ninety percent of all the calls were because they weren't being fed and watered," Baker said. "A lot of people were afraid they were going to get loose ... they were housed next to (Cameron Elementary School). Anytime they get loose, they get into the mode where they're going to hunt and stalk."
Baker said the wolfdogs - now named Lucy and Desi - were enclosed in an area surrounded by seven-foot fences. He had initially received a call that the animals had no food or water and had not been fed for four to five days. Baker responded to the residence, photographed the conditions in which the animals were living and called a deputy out. Baker was later authorized to seize the animals.
No charges have been filed against the owner. References« WV State Animal Cruelty Map « More cases in Marshall County, WV
