A 4-month old Golden Retriever mix with burned skin and scabs oozing under her bandages that cover gaping wounds from a vicious acid attack was rescued from a facility in Okeechobee. About sixty percent of her body had been burned by acid. She has been named "Faith" by rescuers. She has a badly mangled tail, the remains of a round of torture. A rubber band had been wrapped tightly around her tail, apparently to abuse the dog and cut off the appendage.
Dr Marc Schnolis of the Hollywood Animal Hospital said "There's no way you can wrap a rubber band around a dog's tail like that by accident. Someone did a lot of abuse to that dog."
Sharon Falcone, of Sunrise, has been rescuing unwanted animals for a decade, taking them from the Death Row of pounds. She added Okechobee animal control to her list of stops, picking animals on Tuesday, a day before they are to be put to sleep.
Falcone received a call from Animal Control Officers in Okeechobee telling her they had an injured dog and asked her to help. She arranged to pick the dog up and take her to the Hollywood Animal Hospital.
When she went to pick up the dog, Falcone said she didn't expect to see the dog looking so bad. Falcone said, "There were no bandages on her and her skin was oozing and falling off in chunks. But she stayed right on my lap and kept licking me and seemed to be doing alright."
Despite the bruality of the attack Faith seems friendly and did not show any signs of being timid or afraid of visitors.
Faith has been adopted by Donna and Mark Montgomery of Hollywood. Donna said, "She's doing great and the kids just love her. She's a normal, happy 5-month old puppy." Donna added they went through a trial period before the adoption became official.
