The shooting and injuring of a small dog is under investigation by Oklahoma County sheriff's deputies.
A small dog weighing about 5 pounds was shot and injured in the Stonetree Court neighborhood. Stonetree Court is west of Luther and north of Memorial Road.
The dog was injured not killed.
Deputies are still interviewing witnesses to the shooting. A man suspected of shooting the dog told sheriff's deputies he thought the dog was one of the strays that had been coming to his property, bothering his dogs and eating their food.
The man refused to give his name to The Oklahoman, but did admit shooting at the dog.
Florence Duke of Stonetree Court said the dog belonged to a nearby family. As she was walking down the road, she saw the dog get out of the family's home and there were two 8 year old girls following the dog trying to catch it. Then, she heard three shots. Duke said one shot hit the dog in the leg and two other shots grazed the dog. The dog was injured, but it will surive.
Duke said he had threatened her dog before and they they have had other dogs killed in this neighborhood.
Duke also mentioned the man had shot at the dog while the two girls were nearby.
The man told The Oklahoman there were no children around when he fired and he was only trying to scare the dog away - not kill it. References- The Oklahoman, Oklahoma City - Apr 2, 2001
