Puppy found hanging in tree survives
Milwaukee, WI (US)

Incident Date: Wednesday, Feb 28, 2001
County: Milwaukee

Disposition: Open

Suspect(s) Unknown - We need your help!

The 3-month old Laborador-mix puppy that was rescued from hanging in a tree by a passerby has made an amazing recovery from his severe injuries. The puppy was rescued on St Patrick's Day and was named "Paddy."

Randal Zeman, a veterinarian with the Humane Society of Wisconsin, Milwaukee, says "He seems to be coming around, so hopefully he can make a full recovery. His pupils were constricted, he was nonresponsive. Then he started having seizures."

The puppy was given medication for the seizures and after the drugs wore off, the seizures didn't return. Zeman said it would be a while to determine if there are any long-term medical effects.

The person who rescued Paddy said he found the puppy hanging by a cord similar to a shoestring, fashioned in a tight noose. He had seen children hanging around the same area earlier in the day and said they might have been responsible.

The Humane Society spokeswoman, Jan Pokorski, said if the youngsters tortured the animal, it shows they need help in stopping that kind of behavior before it gets even worse.
